Socks! Socks! Socks!

My knitting blog, mainly socks.

Well, I feel like my fingers are going to fall off, I did so much knitting - and what stinks, is that I really finished so little. I spent my am knitting on my variaged blues (Hot Socks yarn) - finally finished both heels, and just need to work on the ribbing and I'm done. I hate purling, so I hate ribbing -- so, I'm on the worst part. But I'm starting to not mind ribbing quite so much, so hopefully it won't be too bad.

Jon's broadripple socks are done! Jon's broadripple socks are done! Not much else for knitting news, though I did pick up FC Easy Knitting & the Vogue Knitting magazines this weekend, and also got Barbara Walker's Second Treasury of pattern stitches for 50 cents at a yard sale :). What a find! I'm already starting a top from the Vogue Knitting magazines, I think it's the easiest pattern in the magazine, but other than my shawl that will never end, it's the first non-socks pattern I'm attempting to make. Have to start somewhere! I must admit, I'm getting addicted to this knitting thing, but I miss my crocheting, too.

Jon's pair of broadripple socks are just about to the heel. I would have loved to have started the heels at my lunch at work, but alas, I didn't have my solid yarn to knit with.

Not much knitting news to report - too tired to do any crafts! The first pair of broadripple socks are done, but they don't stay up! They are way too loose, and I'm less then thrilled with the final product :(. A couple of inches are done on DH's pair in the same yarn.

Happy Patriot's Day

and congrats to the winners of the 2004 Boston Marathon! Since Jon had to go into work today, we didn't go to the marathon (my parents did) but Jon & I watched it all on TV. I'll post my entry here & in my crochet blog, and I'll be off to finish knitting my: broadripple socks. Here's Zorro helping me to try them on. Both socks are finished at this point, and I'm about to switch to the garter pattern, or whatever it's called :/. I don't have quite enough yarn to finish a pair for me & a matching pair for Jon & I, since I goofed on the heels & made the heels with my main color instead of my solid color that matched. :( I could have frogged, but didn't care about it enough to frog it. They are, after all, only socks, and a very quick knit at that. So, Jon's will have solid color toes & heels, and since his feet are the same size as mine, but much wider, with a big heel, he'll use the majority of the yarn. I also want to TRY to have enough leftovers of this yarn to make a pair of booties/ankles (the pom pom pattern from magknits), even if I have to stripe the variaged with the solid, I should be able to do it. Okay, enough babbling! Here's another picture of the socks: The sock yarn is actually supposed to be be a dark blue, but in the light, they look awfully purple, don't they?

I did some knitting & crocheting this afternoon! I got a couple of inches done on my broadripple socks - I'm definitely liking them, but they still look too big! I'm plugging away on them though, and trusting my gauge. I also worked on my shawl for an inch or so. I'm getting really bored with it, but, I'll be glad for another shawl, and this baby will be great for those nights we have a campfire at my parents' house, or any other time I just want something thrown around my shoulders, and I want warmth, not necessarily a beautiful work of art. Then again, who says we can't have it both ways??? And who's that cutie laying in the sunshine??? Zorro, that's who!!
Well, since I got my yarn for the broadripple knitalong, I decided to start those yesterday morning, since I was going into work late. I worked on them some last night, as well, and was knitting right along on the pattern. I kept stopping to admire my ripple, but the sock was just huge. I know everyone on the list has been saying that it looks huge for the first few inches of pattern, but this baby was huge, even for my husband, who is getting this pair. Since I make my socks toe up, always, I never really worry about gauge. I just increase until the sock fits. But, I decided to check my gauge, and well, I was wildy off... I mean, wildy off... no wonder my socks were huge! Down to a size 2 needle I went, unfortunately I have very very few nu. 2's lying around, but I scrambled & found enough to start these babies all over again. Just the toes of one pair is done, and the beginning of the other toes (I do both socks at the same time on DPN's), but these are looking MUCH better, and the fabric is definitely looking a lot better, too. Also today, new template! Yeah! It took me longer to find a knitting template then it did for me to do the changes, but, the ad at the top looks really weird, and I can't figure out how to fix it. Anyone out there know what to do? Knowing I have very basic html skills? adultramblings AT therapids DOT net

My sock yarn order from elann.com that just arrived yesterday!

I just realized that I didn't have any pictures of Zorro up on my knitting blog, or really any mention of him. He's such a part of me, that I can't believe I haven't mentioned him! Here's an old picture of Zorro, but I just love it:

You can tell he loves the yarn as much as I do!! He's just so serious about it all. I have tons of Zorro & me with the yarn pictures, but not really a lot of me knitting with Zorro. I'll have to get after Jon to take some new ones :).

I just joined (or I'll hopefully get approved) to:

A ring about kitties & knitting? I'm so there :). I need to join some knitting rings, anyway. Not much actual knitting news to report. I, very sadly, forgot to take socks with me to day :( and at home, I've been working on a pair of crocheted socks. I certainly haven't had time to knit that shawl, either! However, I did get my big old box of sock yarn I ordered last week :) and yesterday got my sock of the month from theknitter.com - lovely purple cotton yarn in a lace pattern, perfect for my mom! I'd love to do these for her for mother's day, but it aint gonna happen. I'm way too slow of a knitter for that.

I've been slow on the ball lately with my knitting. I have at least worked on the shawl a little bit here and there, I need to take photos soon!

No knitting news to report. I've been slowly working on my Hot Socks, but only on my lunch break at work. So, slow going for sure! I'm planning on doing some crocheting tonight, but will work on my shawl for a bit as well, I think. I can do about an inch or so in a half an hour, if I'm concentrating. Then again, I never concentrate!! :)

Worked on my shawl for a little bit this am before I went into work today. My hours at work recently changed, so now I'm working 10 - 6 PM - which means time for crafts in the am, but, less time for crafts in PM. I'm not sure if I'm happy or not yet! I am enjoying the shawl, though it's not fancy yarn or fancy stitches. It's just really nice to knit something non sock related! I'm wearing my finished socks today - had to show them off to everyone, and everyone admired them! Great feeling :).

Well, I started the shawl for the shawl knit along last night. I'm doing the very very basic & easy, garter stitch shawl. I already have 2 crocheted shawls, one out of mohair & very long & big, and the other one is much shorter, smaller, and is more of a fashion thing - it's made out of reds, oranges, and yellows & is all about color & not too much about warmth.

So this shawl is made out of a forest green worstened weight yarn out of my stash - trying to de-stash, you know, even though I'm ordering more sock yarn tomorrow - and, I'm plugging along on it. I was planning on knitting on it this morning before I leave to go to work, but decided to work on d/l mail (I'm on a slow connection so it takes forever every day) & updating this blog. I don't want to forget to up date this one, like I did my old crochet one!!

One of my finished fixation socks - cascade fixation, that is.

Unfortunately, I shrunk up the picture so much you can't really see the detail!

Also, look what DH bought at a church rummage sale on Saturday, for $2:

along with some loose double points & two other (no package) circs! Cool beans!

Yeah!

Finally, a new FO - I finished my Cascade Socks. They are lovely, and I like how they came out, but, once again, I should have used a few more stitches - 40 stitches, instead of 36. I'm planning on writing up the pattern - the first time trying to write a knitted pattern - and I'll make the changes in the pattern. I just wish these were wool, as they are so lovely to wear, but aren't keeping my feet warm! Yes, they are on my feet already! I'll add a pic shortly.
